Quality, understandable research should be available to anyone, regardless of their ability to access exclusive institutional platforms. Against a backdrop of integrated markets in an increasingly multipolar world, technological change only further necessitates a well-informed global citizenry. While authorship may be a subjective exercise, Datum Research exists to establish context and provide useful points of reference regarding many narratives and developments that may shape our future.

Datum Research does not use generative transformer models or other types of "genAI" to conduct its research or produce its information content.

Datum Research does not use advertising software or otherwise sell website usage data. We intend to be a reliable source of useful information - nothing more.

Edward von der Schmidt founded Datum Research in 2023. He brings a decade of Wall Street experience in capital markets, sales and trading, and global macro research. Prior to leaving his institutional finance career, he was the lead author and manager of a signature daily markets commentary at one of the world’s preeminent investment banks.

Mr. von der Schmidt has since dedicated considerable research capacity to better understanding software, privacy, and information systems generally, in addition to following market-related and geopolitical developments. He is an Associate of ISC(2) and has passed the CISSP and CCSP examinations. He lives in California.
