Large language models (LLMs) and similar tools are especially powerful if you use them with intention. This software, which relies on pattern recognition to translate language and media into code and vice versa, will invariably make mistakes and requires your careful attention. Using these models thoughtfully, however - by guiding them toward what you want to achieve - can unlock hidden potential.

Providing instructions or a system prompt at the beginning of your sessions can dramatically improve the quality of your initial results and rapidly accelerate your work. To help, we are sharing our system prompt in the spirit of the local, open-weight model (Gemma 3) that we used to produce and refine it. This guidance is meant to be reflexive: it seeks to follow its own advice and reinforce its own principles.

Our system prompt offers a practical framework for analyzing textual information generally. We will share more about our approach, including the process and rationale behind this prompt, in a forthcoming series about how Datum Research intends to use AI.
