Who says what's important? Perspective shapes what matters, and I can only offer my own.

I bring experience in macroeconomics, financial markets, and geopolitical risk, all of which influence interest rates. That's a lot of important information to process. My objective is to accurately distill what I learn in order to help you.
The Recap is meant to be a quick, useful starting point for select topics that might influence macro markets - think interest rates, foreign exchange, commodities, equity indices, and the like. I cannot cover everything, but I will try to write about a few things well.
Narrative moves markets, so I do my best to follow how context evolves. What is changing? Why might that be? Where could we be headed?
To answer those questions, you need a read on what is actually happening. I prefer established public sources - primary or secondary. It is much easier to have a conversation when we can refer to the same things, even if we may disagree about what they mean.
In addition to paid news subscriptions, I rely heavily on free-to-access sources like the Associated Press (AP), international news broadcasts (via PBS), and public radio. I also try to follow these and other outlets on social media. When possible, I review primary sources myself.
I cross-reference as best I can, which still requires an implicit trust in what I see online. Vetting sources is critical, and I know that I am often banking on the professionalism of journalists to do that for me. I appreciate their hard work and will take the time to source clearly.
These notes will only represent one person's perspective derived from the labor of many. Still, curated summaries have their uses. The Recap should save you time getting up to speed on important themes and events, or at least help you figure out where you might want to look next.
I would love to hear what you think!
Thank you for reading,
Eddie von der Schmidt
